TOH Salem project…a portico makeover.

The column bases on old portico...rot has been sawn away. A coil of aluminum (white) flashing has been inserted into column, and riveted to secure tight fit. Fortunately, there was enough solid wood to retain structural integrity and avoid total replacement.

Furring strips have been attached to the coiled flashing retaining wall. This is to reduce the amount of epoxy filler needed. (Pricey stuff!)

The rotted area has been filled with a two-part epoxy filler. The material responds well to tooling and holds the intended shape, so that the fluting of this column could be matched by shaping it with a broad knife.

Massive prep finally done and ready for paint! (except for the door). These surfaces were loaded with paint. We used a solvent-based stripper that was being featured.--it was slow-acting, inefficient...it took forever!

The beauty shot of the finished portico..."looks like it just came out of the box!"
